We’ve rounded up ten of the hottest wedding trends for 2021.

Weddings will have an even deeper meaning; an extra layer to the day where there is amoment to stop and reflect on the events of the past 12 months and be grateful for good health and safety, to honour the opportunity of being finally able tocelebrate with loved ones.

For example by a personal note on each guest place setting, take home one of the flower arrangements at the end of the night to grandparents, sax player wandering among the guests, or hiring one or two babysitters to look after young guests during dinner and speeches and into the evening – it’s a way of giving parents some much-needed time off.
2021 weddings will be much more about experiences . Palm and tarot readers have boomed in popularity as weddings,as well as interactive experiences like street artists to sketch your guests, petting zoos, acrobats and fire performers, roaming musicians, magicians and more.
This year we’ve all been stuck inside wearing jogging bottoms and top knots, so we’ll see a return to full-on Hollywood glamour, interest in chandelier earrings and statement necklaces.
Rather than dressing every surface in the venue with traditional designs, couples will instead focus their budget on the larger statement designs. Think f.e. sitting your guests under a canopy of hanging flowers for the ceremony.
Wedding décor will be sustainable, raw, natural, locally sourced and traditional. Thereis a strong way towards ’70s materials and aesthetic – macramé, crochet, rattan, block colours, wooden beading and textured linens.
How about to combine rattan chair, pampas grass and a Moroccan-feel carpet?
We expect that some couples will invest in pieces which will become heirlooms to be passed down to future generations.
Considering they predict a baby boom post-lockdown, we might need to buy several heirlooms…
Guests can expect to see an influx of invites to weekday weddings in 2021. It’s due to the build-up of 2020 weddings which have spilled over into 2021, but also budget considerations for couples who’ve been more stretched than expected. Hiring venues and suppliers is cheaper on weekdays and there’s morelikely to be availability.
Another trend - more and more 2021 couples wanting to take over thevenue for multiple nights, to extend their wedding celebrations and continue the party.
When it comes to wedding dresses, celebs are still driving the trends. And Meghan Markle trend is still happening. Everyone is loving classic, clean lines, and simple, elegant dresses. A classic dress doesn’t have to be dull, however. Refresh them with statement veils, like Hailey Bieber did - “Till Death Do Us Part”.
Long full veils will make more of an appearance, but embellished with personalised and bespoke embroidery. Secret messages in veils is also a huge trend and makes for stunning heirloom pieces.
Duchesse satin will be a favourite fabric, which is so classical and luxurious whe nsculpted over waist-defining corsets and big voluminous skirts, lighting up theface with its natural glow.
We expect to see more strapless dresses. I also believe there will be a further surge in more demure, covered-up looks, so dresses with high necks and cheeky small and long puffed sleeves.
Goodbye minimalist white, hello colour. 2021 will seean abundance of hues for florals, bridesmaids dresses, decor, and even wedding dresses!
Want a gentle version of the trend? Use pastels alongside minimalist white for a soft palette. Feminine floral and pink wedding dresses are also a hot trend for the unconventional bride.
Think gorgeous lilac, pastel pink, yellow and peach tulips and sweet peas, with a popof colour such as orange or coral.
Another popular colours will be ochre, mustard and butter. Yellow has so many wonderful tones in nature that there’s shades to suit every season. People will propably use minimal green foliage, with classic flowers like roses, orchids, dried textures, delphiniums.
Floral patterned linen, with hand-painted floral charger plates all matching, breakingit up with plain colour napkins and glassware, this all we will see in 2021.
Some flowers taste as good as they look, which is probably why edible flowers are all the trend. Couples have flowers frozen in ice cubes, infused in drinks, tossed in salads, and on top of desserts. It’s a unique way to use floral elements in ways that don’t involve centerpieces and bouquets.
Like selecting the perfect food menu, many music-loving couples are opting for customised playlists/music themes for their big day. The best option? Work with an experienced DJ who can create your dream sound – choose your genres and favourite tunes and leave the rest up to the experts.
More and more couples are choreographing a dance together. Learning a TikTok dance became a quarantine right of passage, and newly married couples will be eager to show off their new fancy footwork.
Soft, romantic bridal hairstyles have been popular for a while now, and relaxed hair continues to trend this year; we’ll be seeing brushed-out waves with less defined curls and more of a natural vibe. For updos, low textured buns, ponytails, and chignons - perfect for minimalist brides.
Nothing will replace a traditional bar, but single beverage bars – in particular, Gin & Tonic stations – are a hot addition to wedding receptions. Self-serve setups are a fun, interactive way for your guests to get a drink, and can take a bit of pressure off the bar staff. Imagine an ice cream sundae bar, but for margaritas, with different flavors and a spread of garnishes and mix-ins for guests to create their own signature drink.
New-age couples aren’t afraid to create their own traditions and incorporate spiritual elements into their weddings, from alternative ceremonies to crystals as decor.
Lighting plays a massive part in creating ambience, especially as the evening approaches. No matter where your reception takes place, you can easily complement the existing lighting with a few additional pieces.
Think outside the box with gorgeous chandeliers, candelabras, mini table lamps, impressive floor lamps, lanterns, fairy lights, or a combination of any of the above.
Cake still reigns supreme, but creative dessert options are trending and provide a fun alternative. Think cheese towers or platters, pancake stations, and doughnut installations. Bonus points: provide little paper take away bags of boxes so guests can take home a treat.
Cheese is the new cake - charcuterie boards has inspired a new savory wedding trend. Couples are ditching the dessert tables for displays of meats, varieties of cheese, crackers, nuts, and fruit. Bonus: it’s the perfect late-night snack for your guests.
Sustainable weddings are gaining popularity as greenbrides and grooms opt for environmentally friendly options for their wedding days. Here are a few ways that you can introduce sustainability into your bigday:
• Use biodegradable confetti.
• Consider a digital invite instead of the traditional posted option or print it on recycled paper
• Go plastic-free (you’ll need to work with your vendors on this, but it’s 100%doable)
